Huron Waterloo Pathways Initiative (HWPI) is a 501c3 organization that supports the development of non-motorized trails throughout our region. Our work is grounded in the idea that people of all ages, abilities, income levels, and interests have the right to access nature and enjoy the outdoors safely. We believe that recreational trails support physical and mental health, provide safer commuting options, benefit local economies, connect communities, and reduce our region’s carbon footprint.
HWPI continues to honor the legacy of the late Karen McKeachie. Karen, a pioneer in women’s sports, world-class triathlete, community leader, and a beloved friend of many, tragically lost her life in August 2016 while biking near her home. It is the wish of Karen’s husband, family, and friends to honor Karen’s life and legacy by building the Border-to-Border Trail (B2B Trail) and providing safe, non-motorized pathways for all.
